The ideal time to implement a Deep Energy Retrofit is when a building is being renovated anyway. At Castle Square, the property was scheduled to undergo a typical renovation (boiler replacements, new windows, new appliances, new lighting, new kitchens, and some masonry repairs). By modifying the standard scope of work, we were able to reallocate funding for different purposes and achieve dramatic energy savings.
It should be noted that part of the beauty of a Deep Energy Retrofit is that it does NOT require a gut renovation. This is because the insulation is installed on the outside of the building. Residents can continue to live in their apartments during the renovation!
This “How to Guide” will provide some of the logic behind how we arrived at the final scope of work. We’ll be adding to it over time, so please check back soon.
